From certain angles the Grand Teton looks remarkably like the Matterhorn. I guess I must just be attracted to towns that have a very distinctive, pointy-looking mountain overshadowing them! We were foiled again in our second attempt a backcountry skiing in the national park this weekend -- snow conditions were sub-par, so after about an hour of skining up, we decided to bail and turn around, instead of completing the 2 additional hours of climbing to the top of the ridge we had in mind (25 Short) for what we thought would be marginal snow. Turns out the day proceeded to warm up significantly, so it probably would have been pretty good spring conditions up there. maybe next time ...
